The Portland Almost 5k

Start your day a run, jog, walk, or roll through some of our neighborhood’s most beautiful vantage points. The scenic route begins outside the historic Marine Hospital behind the Family Health Center, passes through the morning dew of Lannan Park, crosses the typically closed bridge onto Shippingport Island, then circles back.

Kentucky Yoga Initiative Class

Recharge after your run, or start your day, with a free guided yoga course in front of Portland Museum. While the Fair sets-up in the backyard, enjoy a relaxing yet athletic experience from the pros at the Kentucky Yoga Initiative. No sign-up required, just be here and be ready to flex!

The Fair Begins

The moment we’ve all been waiting for! Venture into Portland Museum and its acre backyard to experience the ninth annual Portland Art and Heritage Fair and its wealth of activities as listed below.

12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Squallis Puppeteers 25th Anniversary Celebration

Sock puppet workshops, puppet DJing, puppet performances, an entire Squallis Puppeteers retrospective upon the Portland Museum walls, and more! Join us to celebrate the past and future success of this beloved creative organization, and get creative yourself!

12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Community Tabling

As it does ever year, the 2022 Art and Heritage Fair will feature vendors from the community! Already signed up are art collectives, nonprofit initiatives, craft vendors, and more.

Food Trucks

What’s an event without food? We dare not imagine it. Featured will be PISTO Mexican Street Food Tacos, beer from Shippingport Brewing, sweets from the upcoming Sugar, and more!

Printmaking Workshop

A Portland Museum classic spearheaded by printmaker extraordinaire Shannon Delahanty. Join Shannon as she walks visitors through using a letterpress machine and walk home with a free, custom poster printed before your eyes and maybe even by your hand!

2:30 PM

Roots on the River: The Black Presence in Portland

Celebrate the opening of a new exhibit curated by Portland Museum Board Member and Filson Community History Fellow, Ed White. Roots on the River: The Black Presence in Portland is a project exploring, documenting, and sharing the rich history of Black families, institutions, and organizations in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood. Join us at 2:30 for remarks and Q&A with Ed White.

3:30 PM

Critters of the Ohio Art Competition

On display will be the top entries to the contest, all concerning local critters. Three winners to be announced here will receive cash prizes of $500 (1st), $200 (2nd), and $100 (3rd). The deadline to submit is September 27th, so get that artwork ready!

Printed Zinemaking Workshop

After its success with the Catfish Club, Printed is bringing back the zinemaking workshop to the Fair! Color and customize your own zine based on historic Portland photography at Printed’s table. Drop by any time, and check out our collaborative merch too!

Louisville Academy of Music Instrument Petting Zoo

Play an instrument? Don’t? Either way, come learn about and observe the making of music with the Louisville Academy of Music. Featured throughout the day will be student performances and the chance to play a tune yourself.

Tip It Forward Mobile Wellness Clinic

A community favorite, Tip It Forward and their plus bus will be back offering free acupressure treatments! Enjoy their holistic care and receive more information on whole health between mind, body, and spirit.
